Of course you're not supposed to like the title - that's part of the big,
good-natured and remarkably successful joke that is Urinetown.
This wonderful new musical features a great story filled with greed,
love, revolution and some of the funniest and catchiest songs you'll
ever hear! In a Gotham-like town somewhere, fantastical yet strangely
familiar, a twenty year drought and depletion of the Earth's water
supply leads to a ban on private toilets. The privilege to pee is
regulated by the malevolent corporation, "Urine Good Company" which
forces the poor citizens to pay ever-escalating fees on their most
private and basic of needs. Out of the mass of the pitiable, a hero rises
to lead his fellow citizens against the tyrannical regime.
Drawing from West Side Story, Chicago and Les Miserables among others,
Urinetown irreverently pays homage to the great American musical
theatre tradition. Cheeky and intelligent, hilariously funny and
touchingly honest, the show is a must see for anyone who cherishes a
remarkable Broadway musical.
"Urinetown is hilarious, simply the most galvanizing theatre experience
in town!" (New York Times)
